At 11.5 months old, we finally shared a night away from my son, which was probably long overdue. We spent some time getting the kiddos settled with Grandma and Grandpa and left around lunchtime to enjoy some kid-free time. About two hours into our car ride, I admitted how quiet it was – no whining, crying, or cute little voices coming from the back seat. It was nice!
We had a wonderful time celebrating the marriage of our friends at their beautiful outdoor wedding. It felt good to just be “Cathy” and not mom. And surprisingly, we managed not to only talk about our children all the time. As typical with most Wisconsin weddings, we broke out our best polka and other crazy dance moves. What a great night!! Plus we were able to sleep soundly to the LATE hour of 7:00 a.m. We returned to Grandma and Grandpa’s house to get the full report from the kiddo’s stay, and everyone did fine. I enjoyed the adult time with my husband and our friends, as it’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of child-rearing and not save enough time for date nights or simply relaxing together. This is something we’ll definitely have to do more often!
