Hey there! I’m still here, going, going, going, as Go Mama O. does it!  One fun activity that we’ve enjoyed as a family has been painting.  See I was on a mission to paint artwork for decorating our master bedroom, so I was doing some painting on my own with the help of YouTube videos.

Here is my first birch tree painting that I did a few months ago:

My first “masterpiece.”

It is a bit different than the great tutorial from Angela Anderson.  See her video here:

Pretty, right?! I find a nice sense of quiet when I’m painting, so I decided to try to do some more and let my kids get involved too.

The lure of painting on a canvas was too much, so I let the kids try it out. My daughter chose to paint her name, but my son has wanted to be like Mom and paint with a tutorial.

The first one pictured in the upper left was one my son did.

Here’s the video from The Art Sherpa for the moonlit winter birch trees:

His interpretation is pretty good for a 5 year old!

Though I had thought the larger canvas would work well for hanging in our bedroom, I decided to let my son work on it. We ended up painting it together, starting with the lime green background. Yes, he was painting in his pajamas! We selected this Bill Inman Art tutorial as our guide.

I love painting leaves with my kids, since they are so free spirited with their paint strokes! After a while my son just does his own thing and gets very focused.  Similar to his last painting, he wanted to have a birch tree again. At the time, I was working on my own larger sized canvas on a group of birch trees, so I think it was just a birch tree trend. I watched the Clive 5 Art video for my own painting:

Recently, I hung both the co-painting masterpiece next to my own painting. I really like how they turned out!

A bit of color on the walls now! I did end up decorating with our masterpieces after all.

While some of our paintings may not end up as we like, we have enjoyed sharing in the process of creating together.  It has been a fun and relaxing hobby for us, and I hope that will continue.
