I drove up to northern Wisconsin alone.  Just me, myself, and I.  I can’t remember the last time I drove ANYWHERE alone, well aside from going to the grocery store or Target for a quick errand.  Sometimes those store runs feel like a mini vacation!  northern WisconsinThis past weekend was a get-away for real!  My very first weekend apart from my entire family, leaving Daddy O to watch our kiddos on his own.  The drive up north was VERY QUIET and peaceful, listening to music, occasionally belting out a song (better that the car was empty then), and simply pondering life in general.

Getting away reminds me of the post I recently read, “Mamas. go play!”  HashBrowns…October 8-12, 2012 Go Play!

I joined my sister and her family at their cottage on the lake, surrounded by the beautiful fall colors.  We were supposed to go horseback riding, but Mother Nature would not cooperate, giving us rain, rain, and more rain that did not really go away all weekend.  We did what any pair of mamas would do: resort to Plan B.  This entailed finding a spa and treating ourselves to pedicures, a nap, good food & wine, and a chick flick to end the night.  It was wonderful!!  The next day I had fun playing with my nephews – something I’m used to doing while taking care of my own kiddos.  We colored, played with legos, and raced through an indoor obstacle course.  They are so sweet!

By the end of the weekend, I was anxious to get back home and return to my family.  I missed them of course, but enjoyed the time to re-charge and relax during a lazy weekend.  Getting away, or having some time off is something that ALL moms need once in a while.  Thanks Daddy O for the break!

What do you like to do on your kid-free time off?
